The Society is a growing professional membership organisation for all working in any capacity with and for bereaved people, or working in end of life care, who aim at all times to uphold good practice in care, support and client service and who wish publicly to declare commitment to these aims.
SBP was founded with the following principal objectives:
•At all times supporting, promoting and celebrating best practice in bereavement care and end of life care and client support.
•Celebrating and recognising excellence by the occasional award of the Society's Award of Honorary Life-Membership, or for existing Professional Members - Membership with Honours.
•Occasionally appointing as Fellows of the Society, individuals who, through their professional expertise or public profile, exemplify the Aims of the Society, or whose contribution to the fields of bereavement or end of life care warrants the highest level of recognition by this Society.
•Admitting suitably qualified and/or experienced practitioners as Professional Members (MSBP)
•Admitting as Associate Members (ASBP) of the Society suitable applicants with an interest or involvement in bereavement or end of life care, but who do not meet the entry requirements for Full Membership.
•Granting Associate Members in good standing with the Society, authority to use after their names the letters ASBP, as a public sign of membership and commitment to our aims.
•Granting Professional Members in good standing with the Society, authority to use after their names the letters MSBP, as a public sign of membership and commitment to our aims.
•Granting Fellows in good standing with the Society, authority to use after their names the letters FSBP.
•Granting Honorary Life Members in good standing with the Society, authority to use after their names the letters HonSBP, as a public sign of membership and commitment to our aims.
•Granting Professional Members with Honours in good standing with the Society, authority to use after their names the letters MSBP(Hons), as a public sign of membership and commitment to our aims.
•Fostering positive relationships with non-member organisations and individuals engaged in bereavement or end of life care, support or service.
•Promoting on a wider stage the work of bereavement and end of life care practitioners.
•Conducting occasional meetings, seminars, courses and study days for the benefit of members’ Continuing Professional Development and/or for the information of the general public.
•Supporting and promoting ethically, morally and within the law, genuine freedom of choice for the bereaved and those preparing for the end of life.
•Establishing and administering under the umbrella of SBP specialist interest membership groups, reflecting the breadth of expertise of our members.
